Am I ITLS certified after I complete ITLS eTrauma?
No. Completing ITLS eTrauma does not provide ITLS Provider certification, and students do not receive an ITLS certification card at the end of the eTrauma program. ITLS eTrauma is the first, didactic part of a 2-part solution to earning ITLS Provider certification. Students must take and pass a Completer Course after taking ITLS eTrauma to earn their ITLS Provider card and certification.

Who can take ITLS eTrauma?
ITLS eTrauma is appropriate for all levels of EMS personnel, from first responders and basic EMTs to advanced-level paramedics, nurses, trauma surgeons and physicians.

When you begin ITLS eTrauma, you will be asked to select your course: ITLS eTrauma for Advanced Providers or ITLS eTrauma for Basic Providers. Lesson content is identical for Basic and Advanced students, but students are tested only on material appropriate for their skill level.

Can ITLS eTrauma be used for Provider Recertification?
ITLS requires a 1- or 2-day Provider Recertification course that includes practice and performance of skills stations and ITLS patient assessment procedures. A didactic course such as ITLS eTrauma is not sufficient as a recertification unless it is combined with a Completer course.

If you wish to take ITLS eTrauma in conjunction with a 1-day Completer Course, you may use this combination as an option for recertification. However, most Chapters and Training Centres require only a 1-day in-person Provider Recertification course, so taking ITLS eTrauma and a Completer Course would be more time-consuming than simply taking the Recert course.

How do I register for ITLS eTrauma?
To register for ITLS eTrauma, you must purchase the eTrauma package from Pearson Education by visiting: www.itrauma.org/etrauma

This link will take you directly to Pearson’s storefront and allow you to purchase one of the three program options. You will need to create a MyPearsonStore account before purchase.

There are multiple options for purchase. All options now include a course access code that will be delivered to you via email so that you may begin the course immediately. If you purchase the course Value Pack that includes the hard-copy 8th edition Provider manual, your course code will be emailed electronically, but your textbook will be shipped separately via FedEx and usually arrives within 3 business days in the continental U.S.

What do you receive with the ITLS eTrauma program?

  • 13 interactive lessons that correspond to textbook chapters
  • 3 different options for course and textbook: with hard copy textbook, with etextbook, or access code only if you already own the 8th edition Provider manual
  • 8 hours of CAPCE continuing education credit upon successful completion.
  • Note there is no CME for physicians upon completion
  • Option to take ITLS eTrauma for Advanced Providers or ITLS eTrauma for Basic Providers – different quiz questions depending on your skill level

How long will it take for my access code/e-textbook to be emailed to me?
8th Edition ITLS eTrauma is sold to U.S. customers by Pearson Education. The two digital options, the access code only or the access code with e-textbook will be sent immediately after purchase, so you may start the course right away.

The hard-copy 8th edition textbook is no longer available.

International customers must order directly from the ITLS International Bookstore. Orders for international customers are fulfilled by ITLS staff and access is NOT instantaneous. Access code and instructions for access will be sent by email within 3 business days.

When am I eligible to take a Completer Course?
You must successfully complete the complete ITLS eTrauma program before becoming eligible to take a Completer Course.

To successfully complete the program, you must pass the Lesson Quiz at the end of each of the 13 modules with a score of 80% or better. When you complete all 13 Lesson Quizzes successfully, the program will “unlock” access to the Claim Credit process, where you will claim your credit and print a Course Completion Certificate.

This certificate is required for entry into a Completer Course. You will not be permitted to take the Completer Course if you do not have this certificate.

How do I find a Completer Course?
Completer Courses are run through your local Chapter or Training Centre, or held in conjunction with a national or international EMS event. Use the ITLS Course Management System to search for a course near you, or contact your Chapter/Training Centre.

If you do not find a Completer Course that fits your needs, it is highly recommended that you contact your Chapter or Training Centre Coordinator for assistance. Most Chapters and Training Centres keep lists of students who need a Completer Course and will run a course when they have enough interested students. Many other Chapters and Training Centres are working with course coordinators to incorporate a Completer Course into the existing Provider Course as well.

Is there a volume discount available for organizations who wish to purchase eTrauma packages in bulk?
A volume discount may be available for organizations who wish to purchase a large number of eTrauma packages (quantities in the thousands). Negotiations are done directly through Pearson’s Business Office, not through International Trauma Life Support. Please contact Brittney Tambeau to request the contact information for inquiring about a volume discount.
