Improving Trauma Care Worldwide

ITLS Sad News to Share

We have learned that past Board Chair Dr. Pete Gianas passed away Wednesday, July 28 in Florida.  There is currently no information on the arrangements or memorial services but we will pass that along when we receive it.

Dr. Pete Gianas (foreground) and Tony Connelly celebrated the rebranding of BTLS to ITLS at the International Conference in 2005.

Pete has served as Board Chair for four years and has made significant contributions to the development of ITLS around the world. From Australia to Mexico, from Austria to Italy, wherever he went representing ITLS, he would spend the time with faculty, staff and students listening to their concerns and sharing his expertise with them. He would have much preferred to sit and chat with EMS crews than attend cocktail parties.  As an emergency physician and county doc in rural north Florida, he could share stories that would have you laughing and crying at the same time.

ITLS has lost a true friend with Pete’s passing. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family in Wellsville, New York and his EMS family in Bradford County, Florida.

Update: Services for Dr. Gianas will be held Friday, August 6 at 12:00 PM EDT at Madison Street Baptist Church, 900 W Madison St, Starke, FL 32091.
