Board Roles and Key Responsibilities
The ITLS Board of Directors drives the organization’s overall success and governance. Therefore, the Board holds a legal and ethical duty to act in the best interests of the organization and its stakeholders to ensure long-term sustainability.
Specifically, key responsibilities include:

Mission and Strategy: Ensuring that the nonprofit stays true to its core mission and strategic goals.

Governance and Oversight: Managing the organization legally and effectively. This involves approving policies, monitoring financial performance, and overseeing risk management.

Financial Oversight: Approving budgets, reviewing financial statements, and maintaining proper financial controls.

Strategic Decisions: Setting long-term goals and priorities. Consequently, the Board makes key choices regarding major initiatives, partnerships, and organizational direction.

Collaboration: Working alongside staff, committees, volunteers, and other key partners to advance the ITLS mission.
Qualifications and Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for a position on the ITLS Board of Directors, potential candidates must meet the following criteria:

Actively participate in ITLS chapter or international activities for at least two of the last five years.

Possess experience teaching or coordinating ITLS courses.

Show strong motivation to develop and grow ITLS within a chapter or at the international level.

Demonstrate clear experience in leadership roles, either within ITLS or with other professional or volunteer organizations.

Disclose all potential conflicts of interest.
Terms of Service
Board members serve a 3-year term that begins immediately upon election (2026 – 2029). Furthermore, elected Directors may serve a maximum of 3 successive terms.
However, please note that individuals who complete the maximum of three consecutive terms must sit out for at least one full year. After that period passes, they become eligible for re-nomination, as the ITLS Bylaws Article IV outlines.

Additionally, you must answer the following questions. Please limit each response to 300 words:

Describe your involvement with your ITLS Chapter.

Describe your involvement with ITLS International (such as committees).

What other volunteer or leadership activities have you joined?

Describe your previous or current experiences on other Boards.

If applicable, does your employer support your candidacy for an ITLS leadership position? (Yes/No)

Letter of Support: A maximum 2-page letter from your ITLS Chapter that the Chapter Coordinator or Medical Director signs.

CV or Resume: A standard 2-page document (8.5 x 11 size) in PDF or Word format.

Photo: A clear headshot in PNG or JPG format.
Review Process and Elections
First, the Awards, Bylaws, and Nominations Committee will review all submitted applications. Next, the Committee will select the final slate of candidates for the election.
If the Committee does not recommend a candidate, that individual can still run as a floor candidate during the International Trauma Business meeting. We will announce the specific process for floor nominations before the meeting begins.
Subsequently, we will send selected candidates the Board Candidate Qualifications, Campaign Rules, and instructions for the next steps. Ultimately, the Board election will take place during the ITLS Business & Awards Session in Chicago, IL.
