Frequently Asked Questions
Am I ITLS certified after I complete ITLS eTrauma?
No. Completing ITLS eTrauma does not provide ITLS Provider certification, and students do not receive an ITLS certification card at the end of the eTrauma program. ITLS eTrauma is the first, didactic part of a 2-part solution to earning ITLS Provider certification. Students must take and pass a Completer Course after taking ITLS eTrauma to earn their ITLS Provider card and certification.
Who can take ITLS eTrauma?
ITLS eTrauma is appropriate for all levels of EMS personnel, from first responders and basic EMTs to advanced-level paramedics, nurses, trauma surgeons and physicians.
When you begin ITLS eTrauma, you will be asked to select your skill level: Basic or Advanced. Lesson content is identical for Basic and Advanced students, but students are tested only on material appropriate for their skill level.
Can ITLS eTrauma be used for Provider Recertification?
At this time, ITLS eTrauma is not recommended as an option for Provider Recertification. ITLS requires a 1- or 2-day Provider Recertification course that includes practice and performance of skills stations and ITLS patient assessment procedures. A didactic course such as ITLS eTrauma is not sufficient as a recertification.
If you wish to take ITLS eTrauma in conjunction with a 1-day Completer Course, you may use this combination as an option for recertification. However, most Chapters require only a 1-day in-person Provider Recertification course, so taking ITLS eTrauma and a Completer Course would be more time-consuming than simply taking the Recert course.
How do I register for ITLS eTrauma?
To register for ITLS eTrauma, you must purchase the eTrauma package from Pearson Education by visiting: www.itrauma.org/etrauma
This link will take you directly to Pearson's storefront and allow you to purchase the program. You will need to create a MyPearsonStore account before purchase.
Once you have purchased the package, the course textbook and instructions for accessing the program will be shipped to your home or business. The package will include an one-use access code that will allow you to create a login to the ITLS eTrauma course platform.
What does the ITLS eTrauma package include?
The ITLS eTrauma package includes the 6th edition ITLS for Prehospital Care Providers manual and an access code that will allow you to create a login to the ITLS eTrauma course platform. You will have access to the course for 1 year from the date of your first login.
Upon successful completion of the full ITLS eTrauma program, you also receive 8 hours of continuing education credit from the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS). You will be able to print a certificate at the completion of the program that serves as a record of your CECBEMS credit.
How long will it take for my book and access code to be shipped to me?
Access to ITLS eTrauma is not instantaneous. You must place your order online and wait for the textbook and access code to be shipped to you.
Most orders are shipped out of the Pearson warehouses within 1 day of order and are shipped FedEx ground to arrive within 3 days to most continental U.S. locations. International orders will take longer to fulfill.
It is not possible for ITLS to provide an access code without providing a textbook, nor is it possible to request an expedited access code. Access codes can only be sent with the ITLS eTrauma package via mail order.
If you need your ITLS eTrauma package faster, please select and pay for expedited (Overnight) shipping when checking out.
When am I eligible to take a Completer Course?
You must successfully complete the complete ITLS eTrauma program before becoming eligible to take a Completer Course.
To successfully complete the program, you must pass the Lesson Quiz at the end of each of the 13 modules with a score of 70% or better. When you completed all 13 Lesson Quizzes successfully, the program will generate a Course Completion Certificate.
This certificate is required for entry into a Completer Course. You will not be permitted to take the Completer Course if you do not have this certificate.
How do I find a Completer Course?
Completer Courses are run through your local Chapter or Training Centre, or held in conjunction with national or international EMS event. Use the ITLS Course Management System to search for a course near you, or contact your Chapter.
If you do not find a Completer Course that fits your needs, it is highly recommended that you contact your Chapter Coordinator for assistance. Most Chapters are keeping lists of students who need a Completer Course and will run a course when they have enough interested students. Many other Chapters are working with course coordinators to incorporate a Completer Course into the existing Provider Course as well.
I already own the ITLS Provider manual. Can I purchase an ITLS eTrauma access code only?
At this time, ITLS eTrauma must be purchased as a package that includes both the textbook and the access code.
Is there a volume discount available for organizations who wish to purchase eTrauma packages in bulk?
A volume discount may be available. All negotations are done directly through Pearson's Business Office, not through International Trauma Life Support. Please contact Kate Blackwelder at kateb@itrauma.org to request the contact information for inquiring about a volume discount. |
