Are ITLS courses
the same as BTLS courses?
ITLS will be transitioning
the names of its courses over the next few years. For now,
ITLS courses are the BTLS courses that it has traditionally offered.
Do I need to turn
in my BTLS card for an ITLS card? If so, when?
No, all current BTLS cards
will remain valid until their expiration dates. When you take
a new ITLS course or refresher, you will be issued an ITLS card.
Will BTLS chapters
now be called ITLS chapters?
Yes. All BTLS chapters
will transition to become ITLS by December 31, 2006.
Who can take a ITLS course?
ITLS offers two core programs: the Basic BTLS course for first responders,
technicians, and EMT-B’s. The Advanced BTLS course is for
EMT-P’s, PA’s, nurses and physicians.
I am a ITLS provider but lost my card. How can I get a copy?
Contact the course coordinator for your course. If that person isn’t available, contact the ITLS chapter where you took your course. Use the “Find a ITLS Course” section on the left column to locate the contact information.
How can I become a ITLS instructor?
A student who passes a ITLS course with at least a 86% on the written exam, and receives Instructor Potential on the skills section would be eligible to take a ITLS Instructor course. If the student successfully passes the Instructor course and is monitoring teaching a ITLS course, he or she can be awarded Instructor status.
If I am an instructor is another trauma course, how can I become a ITLS instructor?
ITLS offers a Bridge course for instructors of other trauma courses. The Bridge course runs around 4-6 hours which covers ITLS’ administrative procedures and ITLS’ skills stations. The instructor candidate would also have to be monitored teaching. |
